Grand Canyon Idiocy

Grand Canyon
The US National Park Service allows a book to be sold at the Grand Canyon National Park stating that the canyon was created by Noah's flood, and park officials will no longer give the geologic age of the canyon -- all of this after pressure from the Bush Administration. WTF? Single-handedly, a presidential administration is working to dumb-down its citizens. They've gone mad south of the 49th. They're working to ensure a stupid future. I can't believe this.

    "...when a 300-million-year-old rock becomes 6000 years old because God says so." No, God (assuming that He exists) said it's about 300 million years old. Some bronze-age herdsmen, guessing that the world was a few generations older than the invention of writing, pulled some numbers out of the air. In the United States, we are free to believe any damn thing, but a nut-cult that demands that science curricula teach their nutty dogma as fact deserves the same degree of "tolerance" that we would have for an attempt to revive Thuggee.

Civil disobedience is called for

In an act of desperation, Tim DeCristopher chose civil disobedience to disrupt the bidding process that saw 149,000 acres of public land leased off to oil companies in Utah. The lease of the land to oil companies, to allow drilling, has been contested by many who wish to preserve the pristine land, located near Arches National Park, the White River, the greater Desolation Canyon region, Labyrinth Canyon, the benches east of Canyonlands National Park, Nine Mile Canyon, the Book Cliffs and the Deep Creek Mountains. It is one of the final sell-off by the dying Bush administration. DeCristopher showed at the auction, registered as a bidder, and started bidding -- and winning -- with no intention of purchasing or paying for the auctions he won. Way to go dude! You're a hero!
