Cells on Silicon
This was sent to me by a friend. Researchers have managed to grow nerve cells on a silicon chip -- the silicon enabled neve cell was able to communicate to other cells, as well, the chip could read memory traces from the nerve cell. The findings were published recently in the Physical Review Letters. For further reading, check out Peter Fromherz's publication on Electrical Interfacing of Nerve Cells and Semiconductor Chips [PDF], and another similarly titled publication of his from 2001 [PDF].
