Accoona

   Accoona, yet another search engine. This time there is a claim of artificial intelligence being employed to "supertarget" searches. Oh, sorry, "SuperTarget"TM. "SuperTargeting"TM basically allows the focusing of searches to a specific keyword from the results. Yeah, whatever. You can already do this with other search engines by employing specific operators to focus the results. Accoona is interesting because it is a search engine developed with the backing of the Chinese government. Some have suggested that China has developed a search engine in order to control the content being delivered to their population. Translation: censorship. On the first pass however, the site doesn't seem to be filtering any content. The site seems to target the business web surfer and aims to deliver business clicks to Chinese businesses. The Chinese minister of the State Council Information Office is quoted as saying, "my department will support Accoona Corp. efforts to promote Chinese Enterprises to do business with companies throughout the World."
   Some of you may be wondering as well, what's with the name? Accoona? Surely it must ring a bell. If it doesn't here's the answer. According to the press release for the search engine, "Accoona takes its name from the Swahili phrase, "accoona matata," for "no worries," popularized by Disney's film, "The Lion King.""

    I have created a artificial intelligence search engine too (it thinks for you and offers keyword suggestion that you may never have thought of, choices from related synonyms, antonyms, homonyms and thesaurus)! Check out http:// where you see the working beta (I am not using our own index of websites YET, our search & seek web fetching bot is still in development, will even retrieve results when none indexed to index). This will index general web sites and pages linked to by those sites, any topic of data will be accepted. I know its got too many affiliate ads (I need the money), I know it doesn't have billions of web pages indexed (YET), I know my internet access provider can be a little slow at time, I know I am not comparable (YET) but I am working on it. Any suggestions are appreciated so I can continue making the World's best search engine (will be better than the rest once complete). Currently implememting an automatic spelling fixer for common misspellings (will auto fix misspelt words with correct ones or give you a choice to select alternate spellings). I have been making specific topic search engines since 1998 (now moving to a caching, spidering and non topic engine design). Some examples are http:// , http:// , http:// , etc...

Civil disobedience is called for

In an act of desperation, Tim DeCristopher chose civil disobedience to disrupt the bidding process that saw 149,000 acres of public land leased off to oil companies in Utah. The lease of the land to oil companies, to allow drilling, has been contested by many who wish to preserve the pristine land, located near Arches National Park, the White River, the greater Desolation Canyon region, Labyrinth Canyon, the benches east of Canyonlands National Park, Nine Mile Canyon, the Book Cliffs and the Deep Creek Mountains. It is one of the final sell-off by the dying Bush administration. DeCristopher showed at the auction, registered as a bidder, and started bidding -- and winning -- with no intention of purchasing or paying for the auctions he won. Way to go dude! You're a hero!
