Run for the Cure

Nancy G. Brinker is a remarkable woman. She made a promise to her sister, who at age 36, was dying of breast cancer. The promise ... to not let other women suffer as her sister did, from breast cancer. A year after her sister died, Brinker formed the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation -- named after her sister. At little while after, the first Run for the Cure event to raise funds for breast cancer research was held. Today, hundreds of millions of dollars have been raised by the Run for the Cure -- and along the way, Nancy G. Brinker has made a significant dent in the fight against breast cancer. Unfortunately, her promise is long from fulfilled. The fight is hardly over.
