Straight to Hell

Straight to Hell
Oh, what a putrid piece of work this is! Filmed in 1987, Straight to Hell should have been sent straight to hell. It is supposedly a western-comedy. A comedy. A western. It is neither. The movie follows a trio of killers that are simply inept. They rob a bank, and decide to hide out in a town in the desert -- burying the money just out of town. The town is apparently dominated by a clan. None of them are nice. They're killers. They don't like strangers. And they wouldn't mind that money stolen from the bank. Stupid things happen. Everybody breaks out into song. Too often. And they shout. Courtney Love is in this movie. The woman is annoying. She whines, and she screams -- just like her music. The entire movie just grated on me. The acting was atrocious; the filming was crap ... the only thing good in the movie was the music by the Pogues. For some reason, people love this movie. I chalk it up to pretentions. People think it's cool because Alex Cox, the director, made some cool movies. This one however -- just crap.
